Orcas Island Historical Museums
Historical Days on July 2, 2016
We had another very successful Historical Days this year. The pie booth sold out the delicious home baked pies provided by our members and friends, the beer garden serving Island Hoppin' beer was crowded, lots of people enjoyed our flavorful hot dogs and the always popular Harvey Logging Show was a once again a big hit.
2016 Heritage Harvest Feast
An evening of fine dining and good cheer at Red Rabbit Farm. Bowls and platters were filled with the best Farm to Table items from the bounty of the Fall harvest. An unforgettable evening, this important event supports the ongoing stewardship of island history at the Historical Museum
A Pioneer Christmas
Taking place during and before the Eastsound Holiday Celebration & Tree Lighting on the Village Green, we had the Museum decorated, tours available, crafts for kids and more for free.
2016 Volunteer Appreciation Picnic
Volunteers from the Crow Valley School and the Pioneer Museum joined volunteers from the Historical Society's office and members of our Board at the Willis Homestead in Olga on a beautiful August day for our annual Volunteer Picnic. They shared laughter, food and stories about their volunteer work. Some of our members have been volunteering for more than 35 years and the newest volunteers signed up last month!
Our 60th Birthday Celebration was on May 14th, 2016!
The Pioneer Museum was 60 years old this year and we had a celebration. It included cake and ice cream for all, thanks to the generosity of Island Market. Kids enjoyed root beer floats and organized old-fashioned games with fun prizes for the kids. Folks had an old-fashioned picnic lunch and it was a a fun-packed afternoon for the entire family.
"Cruise Into History: Smugglers' Blues" on May 15, 2016
Lucky passengers climbed aboard with Eclipse Charters yacht and cruised to several historical locations in the San Juan Islands. The cruise featured a narration of the history of smuggling by a local historian including smuggler's haunts, actual events, and fun facts. It also included a lunch of Orcas Village Store's clam chowder, Napa salad, goodies, snacks and hot or cold beverages. A good time was had by all!
